FAQ about USB 3.0
What are the main features of USB 3.0 and how does it compare to USB 2.0?
USB (Universal Serial Bus) has a Superspeed SS mode that increases transfer rates 10 times compared to 2.0. USB 3.1 was introduced in 2013 and will be adapted more in 2015 and beyond. It offers twice the speed of USB 3.0
Can you use USB 3.0 on USB 2.0 port?
Absolutely. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, it will work at the ports of both USB 2.0 and even USB 1.1. However, speed will be limited to the maximum transfer rates of earlier version. So you will not get the transfer speed of USB 3.0 on USB 2.0; but you will be able to transfer files, albeit at a slower speed. You can plug USB 2.0 into USB 3.0 ports too
How do I understand if I have USB 3.0 or 2.0 port on my device?
USB 3.0 ports colored blue inside whereas 2.0 are black. Many computers have them both
Do I need to buy a USB 3.0 or is 2.0 sufficient?
Given that USB 3.0 drives could be 5x times more expensive, unless you are transferring large files frequently, USB 2.0 should be enough. Looking at top 10 USB flash drives, only 2 of them were USB 3.0.
How many songs would a 128GB USB 3.0 Flash drive hold?
About twenty to twenty-five thousand songs. But USB 2.0 will hold the same if it is 128GB; just the transfer speed will be slower.
